FIBROMYALGIA CARE - in Warragul

Fibromyalgia.. fibro..  a living hell for many.

Vagueness, confusion, chronic pain in non-specific areas of the body, poor sleep, fatigue, tenderness, stiffness... sound familiar? For between 2-5% of the population (in Australia), this is a daily reality.

No. Fun. At. All.

Unfortunately for sufferers, no-one knows what causes fibromyalgia, and diagnosis is difficult. Going to see your GP should be your first step, but what to say?? "I have pain all over, but I haven't injured myself, I'm exhausted, but I can't sleep, my clothes hurt"... how to explain what you're feeling and be heard, let alone believed?

THIS IS NOT IN YOUR HEAD!

If you happen to find a GP who has experience with fibromyalgia, awesome! They can be hard to find though, and when it comes to treatment, the sad news is, western medicine has no cure.

FIBROMYALGIA TREATMENT - Usual care

Usual care of fibromyalgia takes a multi-pronged approach - regular gentle exercise, good sleep hygiene and the addition of a psychological approach such as cognitive behaviour therapy may offer some relief. Paracetamol and other over-the-counter pain relievers are not particularly helpful, but stronger medications, such as those used to treat epilepsy may be prescribed.

FIBROMYALGIA & ACUPUNCTURE

So, where does Traditional Chinese Medicine fit in???

By working with you holistically... that is, we look at what is going on at all levels - not only physically.

Think of it like this...

We diagnose by identifying a pattern of disharmony, and peel back the layers, like an onion. This allows us to get at the root of the matter and work from there.

While the evidence for treating fibromyalgia (as a specifically diagnosed condition) is poor, there is excellent, high quality research on pain and acupuncture
